Free beaded bunny rabbit keychain pattern made with pony beads for bunny lovers, Easter and animal crafts
Free beaded bunny rabbit keychain pattern made with pony beads for bunny lovers, Easter and animal crafts

Bunny lovers will have fun creating this adorable beaded bunny keychain with a little cord and pony beads. With its long ears, little feet and cute rabbit shape, this colorful bunny makes a fun animal craft any time of year. Choose your favorite colors to create a bunny rabbit with a personality all its own.

These little beaded rabbits are especially fun for spring and Easter crafts, but there's no need to put them away with the Easter baskets. Attach your finished bunny to a key ring, backpack, bag or zipper pull, make one as a handmade gift for a rabbit or animal lover, or hop into making several for summer camp, classroom and group activities. They can also be made in school colors for a bunny or rabbit mascot or made in quantity for school, club and group fundraisers.

Materials Needed:

You will need one connector such as a Lanyard Hook Lanyard hook, or any type of Keyrings Key Ring.

Next, you will need 2 yards of cord for our mouse. There are lots of different types of cords you can use. We prefer a cord that is 1mm to 2mm thick because it helps your keychain critter keep it's shape better. Alternatively, you can use a thinner cord and weave a little wire or a pipe cleaner into your keychain critter to help it keep it's shape that way. Either way works just fine but you can experiment with it to see which method you prefer.

One good option is Monofilament Cord Monofilament Cord or 2mm Metallic Cord 2mm metallic cording. Other good choices would be jute or hemp cord, leather necklace cord, rattail cord, shoelaces, ribbon, paracord, or a strong jewelry cord like tigertail.

You will need White Pony Beads  29 - White Pony Beads (or the color of your choice). As a variation you might like to use glitter or glow-in-the-dark pony beads in place of the white.

You will need Pink Pony Beads  46 - Pink Pony Beads (or the color of your choice). As a variation you might like to use glitter pony beads in place of the pink.

You will need Black Pony Beads  2 - Black Pony Beads for the eyes.

You will need Hot Pink Pony Beads  1 - Hot Pink Pony Beads for it's nose.

Optional: For a stiffer figure you can include a little wire or a pipe cleaner with your cord to help keep it's shape

Instructions:

Connect your cord to your keyring with a Lark's Head knot.
1. Find the half way point of the cord or wire you are using and use a lark's head knot to attach it to your key ring (shown in photo).

Begin stringing your beads
2. Begin weaving the beads onto the cord following the pattern at the bottom of the page. You can click on the image for a larger, better resolution photo.

3. After finishing the pattern tie a double knot in the cords at the bottom of your bunny, on the last row and apply tacky glue to secure. You can hide the knot inside one of the beads.

4. Weave your wire or pipe cleaner through your beaded boy keychain to make it stiffer and hold it's shape.

(Seed beads or E beads can be used in place of pony beads to create smaller characters.)

The illustration below uses green and red to show you how each side of your cord is woven through the beads. It opens to a larger image if you click it.
